ACES is helping orphans in Kenya

Every year our school has supported the children living in the GOF orphanage in Kenya. This year R5/6A has organized a fundraiser that they are calling Hugs and Hearts for Orphans in Kenya. They hope to raise enough money to pay for three children living in this orphanage to attend school for another year (fees, uniforms and books cost $500 per year; money that the orphanage does not have). In doing this, our students are learning about the importance of education, and learning to appreciate how fortunate we are here in Canada, to be able to access education so easily.

In order to promote the theme of friendship, they will be selling bookmarks in pairs, one for them and one for a friend. Each bookmark has a flap which can be flipped up to reveal a possible prize - one for them and one for a friend. Bookmarks cost $2 each pair, or $5 for three pairs. Students from R5/6A will be coming around classes to sell them from Tuesday, January 30th until Friday, February 2nd. Money raised will be sent to the orphanage through the Canadian registered charity, The Children's Bridge Foundation, and so donations of $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt, if sent into school in an envelope with your name and address on it.
