Immunizations - 2019-2020 School Year
Posted on 11/19/2019

Ottawa Public Health requires proof that your child has received proper immunization. Under the Immunization of School Pupils Act, students attending school in Ontario are required to be vaccinated against nine (9) diseases or have a valid exemption. Parents are required to report all immunizations done at the doctor's office to OPH.  Under this Act, OPH has the authority to suspend students for whom OPH does not have a record of immunization from attending school. Parents/guardians are responsible for updating Ottawa Public Health every time their child receives an immunization from their doctor.

All of the immunizations that are required to attend school in Ontario are free at your family doctor, a walk-in clinic, a school clinic, or the immunization centre at Ottawa Public Health.

Parents/guardians of elementary students will receive their written notice from OPH by mail beginning November 20th with a deadline to update OPH as of December 20th. Suspension orders are scheduled to be mailed to households on January 30th, 2020 and scheduled to be enforced on February 24th, 2020.

Please note that on the first day of suspension students will not be sent home, but families will be alerted that students will not be admitted to school on the following day or thereafter, until the records are updated.
