ACES School Council meets every second Monday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the ACES library (unless rescheduled due to a holiday), and is open to anyone in our school community! We encourage you to join us to learn about our initiatives, ask questions, and share your concerns. Even if you just want to drop in and listen, we encourage you to stop by!

School Council meetings are open forums for all ACES parents who would like to gain firsthand insight and have a voice in what's happening at ACES. The principal and a staff member report on staffing, field trips, sports and cultural activities, scheduling changes, etc. We discuss what our school Board and Provincial Government are doing that will impact your child's education, and what can be done about it. We invite guest speakers on different subjects. We raise money for extra school activities, library books, sports equipment and science projects. And in the process we all get to know each other a little better!


By participating in School Council, you can help our School Council discover new and exciting ways to contribute to the education of students in our school. Education is a partnership involving parents, students, teachers, principals, school boards, government, and the community. Our involvement in the School Council gives us the opportunity to strengthen that partnership, and to be part of a dedicated team working to support a high quality of education and an accountable education system for the children of Ontario. Our participation can make a difference!

A typical ACES School Council meeting consists of:

  • an update from school administration about school events, achievements, staffing, and more
  • an update from the teacher representative about what different classes and clubs are up to across the school
  • an update from the treasurer on the status of council finances
  • an update from the OCASC representative regarding other school councils across our board
  • overview and discussion of upcoming events requiring support and fundraising initiatives
  • discussion about where council funds are directed
  • new business



Why Attend ACES School Council Meetings?

Did you know you don’t have to be a council member to attend meetings? Attending meetings is a great way to learn what is happening in the school (staffing, field trips, sports, cultural activities, scheduling changes, etc.), and build a sense of community while meeting other parents. This is our forum to be able to support our children and their education. If you have concerns that you would like the parent community to address, suggestions that you think could make things better, or just want to sit back, listen and learn what’s happening then consider attending the next ACES School Council meeting!
